In a video recorded by members of the Islamic State, it appears as though an airdrop of US supplies intended for Kurdish fighters in the Kobani region has fallen into the hands of the enemy. Pentagon spokesman, Army Colonel Steve Warren says the bundle contained medical supplies, ammunition, hand grenades and RPG’s, as seen in ISIS’s video.

Kurdish fighters have defended Kobani for weeks with the help of US support and supplies and permission from Turkey to allow Iraqi Kurds to cross its borders. Warren says the US successfully airdropped 26 supply bundles to allied forces in Kobani but blames the wind for sending two of the supply bundles astray.

Warren confirmed that one of the stray pallets was destroyed by US forces but the other bundle was seized by members of the Islamic State. Warren added that the weapons in the supply bundle were not enough to give the enemy any type of advantage.

Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, criticized the airdrops when he spoke to reporters at Ankara airport. “It’s impossible to achieve results with such an operation.” Turkey is currently hosting 200,000 refugees from the Kobani region. “I don’t understand why Kobani is so strategic for the US,” Erdogan said, “there are no civilians left there.”
