Giantmicrobes Inc., an American toy company that specializes in stuffed models of microbes, is having trouble keeping up with the demands for their Ebola toy.
The company has reportedly sold the model for years, but is seeing a sudden spike in sales.
“We’ve sold thousands over the last couple of months,” account manager Carol Allam said. “They’re all gone.”
The company sells a small version and a large version of the toy, as well as play puddy resembling the snake-shaped virus.
Laura Sullivan, the vice president of Giantmicrobes Inc., said the toy is “a helpful way for families to talk about it and take some of the scariness away.”
Giantmicrobes Inc. started selling plush organism-inspired toys about five years ago. Their inventory includes sperm, MRSA and cholera toys.
The next available shipping date for the Ebola toy is Nov. 15, according to the website.
