In Xinjiang, in far western China, police received a call from a man who said that his wife was trying to beat him to death.
When police arrived they found a 23-year-old-man, identified by his last name Xu, crotched in the corner of a room covered in bruises. With Xu’s wife no where in sight, the police first took Mr. Xu to the hospital.
The local hospital noted that Mr. Xu was bruised and had many hairline fractures throughout the bones in his arms and legs. He also had a collection of old scars. The hospital officials sent him to a larger hospital to check for internal injuries where they found many old injuries and healed broken bones.
When questioned, Mr. Xu explained that his wife had beaten him and had been beating him for the past 3 years of their marriage. Xu and his wife, Xiao Wang, met back in 2010 when he moved from his hometown in Sichuan to Xinjiang and began to work in construction.
They had a happy marriage for year until his mother came to visit. Mr. Xu was happy to see his mother again and forgot to cook lunch, when his wife came home from gambling and found no lunch she flew into a rage, fed him a knuckle sandwich and threw his mother out of the house.
The beatings became fairly regular after that. Xiao Wang would hit, punch, kick or even beat her husband with a stick if she was in a bad mood or cranky.
When police arrested her, Xiao Wang told them to stay out of her business, it was her husband and she would beat him when she liked.
Mr. Xu has dropped the domestic abuse charges in favor of a judge speeding up his divorce process, as soon as his divorce is finalized he plans to move home and away from his punch-happy ex-wife.
