Earlier this month a 46-year-old man was found not guilty of fleeing the scene of an accident.

In 2013, a 9-year-old boy was riding his bicycle through an intersection when a car struck him. The boy was injured but the car sped off.

Saitama Prefecture police later located a similar car at a repair shop with damage they said was from a hit and run. However, the owner of the car said he had no idea what they were talking about and claimed he was innocent.

Then, this month, a judge found that the photo was too blurry to make out any identifying marks. There was no way to discern from the photo whether the car was damaged and felt that the police were attempting to force the issue. The judge found the man not guilty and there will be additional investigations for possible police misconduct.
