A Tokyo Monorail station failed to open its doors on Dec.15th causing morning commuters to miss the first train.

The previous evening the station attendant at New Seibijo station finished his shift at midnight and locked up, then went to the staff break room to sleep. The morning shift begins at 5 am and the station needed to be open at 5:15 am.

Unfortunately, when the alarm went off at 5 am the attendant turned off the alarm as well as the automatic snooze function and overslept.

When early morning commuters arrived they found the station still locked and empty, which lead to eight of them missing the first train. It wasn’t until they walked to a neighboring station that staff realized that New Seibijo station had failed to open.

Tokyo Monorail has promised they will investigate and additional training programs will be put into place.
