A 22-year-old man was shot dead by a homeowner after trying to break into a house on Tuesday evening in Memphis, Tennessee.

Nico Carlisle and another man knocked on the door of a house on the 2300 block of Devoy Avenue at around 6:30 p.m. When a woman opened the door, they forced their way inside, and Carlisle held a gun to her neck.

The homeowner, who has not been identified, heard the commotion, grabbed his gun and started shooting at the men. Carlisle was hit, while the other man fled the scene.

Police arrived to find Carlisle lying by the front door of the house with multiple gunshot wounds. Carlisle was pronounced dead at the scene. The motive behind the break-in is unclear, though investigators said Carlisle had an outstanding warrant and a long rap sheet.

Police are now searching for the accomplice. Anyone with information should call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
