An AirAsia plane overshot the runway while landing in the Philippines on Tuesday, forcing passengers to use emergency slides to evacuate the aircraft.
AirAsia domestic flight Z2272 was delayed for two hours due to bad weather. Despite the weather conditions, however, it departed from Manila, heading to Kalibo.
Once in Kalibo, the plane attempted a landing but overshot the runway. According to initial reports, three of the plane's tires remained stuck in the mud.
Passengers were forced to evacuate the aircraft using emergency slides.
According to the Independent, emergency services were waiting at the end of the runway, and provided medical assistance to elderly passengers.
The incident comes only two days after AirAsia flight QZ8501 went missing during a storm while on route from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore.
Prior to last week’s accident, no AirAsia plane had ever been involved in a fatal incident.
Kalibo, a popular tourists destination, is located 350 kilometers south of Manila.
