Cheryl Nibley, 47, used a rusty machete to fight off her home intruder, injuring his head in the 5000 block of Horn Lake Road in Memphis, Tennessee tuesday morning.

A 47-year-old woman in Memphis, Tennessee fought off a home intruder with a rusty machete Tuesday morning.

At around 10 a.m. Cheryl Nibley noticed someone was ripping the screen of the window in her bedroom. Nibley grabbed her phone and a rusty machete she nicknamed Rufus and ran out of the room to call 911.

Then she heard the intruder push her bed away from the wall, so she ran back to wait for him to come in through the window.

"When I saw the top of the head come through [the window] and I got in there and started chopping with my machete and I chopped him on the head. He jumped back out the window, and he ran around the corner to the neighborhood," she said. "And I didn't have on any clothes, so I ran out the house kind of naked, and I thought about it and I ran back in house and put some clothes on. Then I ran back out the house to go chase him, and that's when the police showed up." She told WMC Action News 5.

Nibley lost the intruder as she was chasing him when cops stopped her and asked her to drop her weapon. Police are still looking for the suspect, who was reportedly wearing black clothes with white tennis shoes.

Nigley said she kept Rufus for self-defense because someone had broken into her home and stolen her televisions right before Christmas. She had this to say to the intruder: “Brother, your days of breaking and entering are numbered. You keep this up and you’re not gonna make it.”
