Do you know how many high rise buildings surround Hong Kong’s Victoria Bay?

A 23-year-old artist from Shandong, China, knows the answer! His name is Xin Zhe and he drew the 7,000 plus buildings surrounding Victoria Bay in Hong Kong...

From memory.

Originally, Xin Zhe proposed that he would be able to draw Hong Kong completely from memory as a challenge to Stephen Wiltshire, a British man with autism, who draws entire cities from memory. Wiltshire famously completed a panoramic drawing of New York City in five days, after viewing the city from the air on a brief 20 minute helicopter ride.

Xin Zhe wanted to challenge himself to complete a similar feat.

So after a long helicopter ride in the skies over Hong Kong, Xin Zhe went back to his studio and got started.

After 18 days and 60 pencils the artist was finally able to stand back and admire his work. The panoramic sketch of Hong Kong is perfect in its details, every building perfectly proportionate and even the ads on various buildings are drawn in exacting detail. The piece is 10 meters in length and covers an entire wall.

Xin Zhe said he didn’t manage to complete the panorama in less than 5 days, but he’s satisfied with the piece and said he’ll just have to learn to get faster.
