Local politician Tsai Rong-feng has been a city councilman for over 25 years, but this is the first time he’s been beaten in the street.

Earlier this week, Councilman Tsai drove out to buy a midnight snack and had just exited his parked car when he was set upon by three unidentified men.

The three of them began hitting, kicking, and beating him with bats as Councilman Tsai began running towards a nearby fire station. He fell twice, giving the thugs more opportunities to hit him, when he finally reached the fire station his three attackers fled.

The police were called, but didn’t arrive in time to save Councilman Tsai’s car from being smashed by the three men.

Councilman Tsai was rushed to hospital. He sustained heavy blunt force trauma and internal bleeding. He’s been pissing blood due to the damage to his kidneys, but doctors said with time and enough bed rest he should make a full recovery.

Councilman Tsai said he didn’t recognize his attackers and suspect that it must just be a case of mistaken identity.
