Elizabeth Wolthoff and Rebecca Winslow are lucky to be alive after their SUV plummeted 60 feet from the I-80 bridge in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Wolthoff was driving her RAV4 to work Friday morning with Winslow riding shotgun.

While driving along I-80, near the Hackensack River, they were cut off by a tractor-trailer. Walthoff hit the brakes. Due to the icy road and glaring sun, Walthoff lost control of the vehicle.

The SUV swerved sideways and struck a snowbank, causing it to lurch over the concrete barrier 60 feet above the ground. A tree helped to break the fall. They also crushed a fence before landing on solid ground—tires down.

Firefighters arrived and spoke with the lucky women before snapping a few pictures and getting on with the rescue. They used the jaws of life to open the RAV4 up like a can of tuna, and rushed the pair to a hospital.

Winslow suffered a minor back injury. Walthoff underwent surgery for a fractured back.
