You would never guess that this man was once recruited as a counterterrorism informant for the FBI by his current visage, but Craig Monteilh was once a criminal, spy and a witness for the feds.

He was recruited by the FBI in 2006 after serving time in the Chino, California state prison due to his contacts from his jailhouse days.

The feds taught him tenets of Islam along with basic Arabic in order to come off as a recent convert to the religion as part of Operation Flex, a counterterrorism program designed to seek out and subvert potential terrorist threats in the wake of 9/11.

His mission included infiltrating groups of college-aged aged Muslims and collecting as much information on them as possible. The feds also insisted that Monteilh do whatever it took, including having sex with other women, even though he was a married man.

Ironically, his cover was blown back in 2007 when the Islamic Center of Irvine filed a restraining order on him for being "too extremist."

Monteilh says the vast majority of his targets never exhibited any jihadist rhetoric, and those who did, did so only after "inciting and prodding" on his part.
