Missing and dismembered: Wife murders and cuts up husband’s body, hides it in closet

Loretta Burroughs, age 63, has been found guilty of murder after the discovery of her missing husband’s body inside her closet.
Loretta reported her husband, Daniel, missing in Sept. of 2007 and claimed he’d run off with a younger woman to Florida. Daniel hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Since her husband’s disappearance Loretta sold the house they shared, most of Daniel’s possessions, and divorced her husband in his absence, in order to get the rest of the money from the sale of the house. The elderly grandma has made out with at least USD $100,000.
Loretta’s also moved around a lot in the past 6 years and and two large cardboard boxes packed with plastic tubs went wherever she did.
Police investigating Loretta for fraud applied for a warrant to search her house as she was preparing to move yet again.
In the closet of a guest bedroom, they discovered the two boxes. In one of the plastic tubs was contained an olive colored handbag with a skull and mandible inside. The coroner confessed he’d tentatively said the color of the handbag was olive since the bag and its contents had been sitting in decomposition fluid for so long, the original color was lost.
Eventually the coroner determined that the collection of bones and decomposition fluid had once been Daniel Burroughs, age 63. Grooves in the few ribs recovered revealed that he’d been stabbed to death before being dismembered with a saw, wrapped in plastic bags, and sealed inside the plastic containers.
Now, 6 years since he went missing and 2 years after his body was discovered Loretta has been found guilty and will face up to life in prison at her sentencing.
Case closed.
