"Lives" offers viewers a window on the Latin American continent, as seen through the eyes of people, either well known or ordinary individuals, and an insight into the essence of the region. Today's program looks at the life and contributions of Nicaraguan poet, journalist, diplomat, and patriot Ruben Dario (1867-1916), whose career spans a dozen countries. Dario is considered the founder of the the Spanish-language literary movement known as modernism that flourished at the end of the 19th century and he had a major and lasting influence on 20th-century Spanish-language literature and journalism. Together with national liberation fighter Agusto Sandino, Ruben Dario put Nicaragua on the map for millions of Latin Americans. teleSUR
