Three heavy metal rockers are dead and eight other in serious condition after a traffic accident early morning of April 6.
A van carrying nine men and three women, all musicians from two bands: Khaotika, a self-described "melodic occult metal" band from Atlanta and Alabama-based "black metal" band Wormreich, was travelling south towards Atlanta after a long night of rocking in Spartanburg, South Carolina
Local news sources say authorities believe the driver may have fallen asleep just before the crash that occurred at about 7 a.m. The accident is under investigation, but photos indicate the van veered out of southbound lanes on the I-85, went down an embankment and then struck a tree.
Three men were ejected from the van during the crash and died at the scene. Eight others were seriously injured, with three in critical condition. The two up-and-coming metal bands had been on tour together, playing in Chicago Friday night, St. Louis on Saturday and Spartanburg, South Carolina on Sunday night.
