How Food Turned into Art ? Food-Scape
Art Space J is a gallery specializing in exhibiting photos, and a special exhibition about food was recently held. This exhibition is part of the "Talking About Food: Clothing and Shelter with Art" series. Four talented artists share their views and stories about food. Artist Gwon Jung-jun's "Fractal Apple" uses the fractal method to yield quarter-sized pieces of the apple, which are then stacked upon each other. After the fine touch from Gwon, a round apple became flat then a quadrangle after being photographed. Also, artist Lim An-na captures toy soldiers pointing their guns at food through her artwork series "Romantic Soldiers." The series tells us that war, the ultimate result of greedy, selfish human desires, only results in poverty, starvation and death. Through their pieces of art, they prove that ordinary foods can be key materials in modern art.

Performance
VISBLE SOUND AUDIBLE DANCE
"Sound of Dance, Dance of Rhythm" is a performance series created to introduce the amazing versatility and capabilities of Gugak. Its energetic, passionate first performance was recently held by The K-Beat Ensemble, comprised of drummer Namgoong Yeon and traditional Korean percussionist Min Young-chi. Sanjo dance is usually performed to solo instrumental music played by Gayageum or Geomungo. However, in this performance the dance is accompanied by only two percussion instruments and without any melodies. Also, Jang Hye-rim's modern dance, which shows the sound of dance with plastic, further draws the audience to the performance. This fervent and ecstatic performance filled with the improvised movements of the dancers breaks the stereotype that Gugak is boring, fueling the globalization of Gugak.
