According to new figures released by New York City’s Taxi and Limousine Commission, there are now more Uber cars in operation than traditional cabs.
In less than four years since its launch in New York City in May 2011, Uber has pulled ahead of the traditional taxi industry in terms of number of cars on the road.
The ride service has 14,088 total registered cars while medallion cabs number 13,587, according to data recently released from the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission.
The growing number of Uber drivers has been attributed to flexible hours, higher pay, and guaranteed payment through the smartphone app.
