Love, Talks to the Eye
Artist Lee Kwan-young expresses the power of words through his artworks and his solo exhibition was recently held at the Gallery Joo Hae. Lee is the pioneer of a new artistic genre called voiceprint art. Voiceprint art displays sound waves through layers of wood, and the artist works with people′s voice to express his creativity as well as spreading the message of love. The piece “Love” is inspired by the late cardinal Stephen Kim Sou-hwan. The sound waves of the word ′love′ spoken by the late cardinal have been turned into a cross on top of the piece. Lee also incorporated the late actress Audrey Hepburn into his artistry. Known for her elegant, timeless beauty, the late actress spread love and warmth to everyone around the world. With that symbolic token, the sound waves embedded in Hepburn′s images contain countless stories. Lee questions the true meaning of love and also reminds us of the infinite power of love by making invisible words visible.
