Russia has pledged to continue its support for the International Space Station for another nine years. But after 2024, Moscow wants to go it alone, uncoupling its modules to form its own national space base. As the Russians are the only ones currently capable of ferrying astronauts to and from the ISS, NASA will have to be ready to carry out its own manned space flights by then.
