The Pakistani Taliban are targeting police in Karachi. Over 140 officers were killed last year, most of them victims of targeted assassinations.
The Pakistani government hit back with "Operation Karachi" – an ambitious attempt to eradicate violence in the city – that was launched in September 2013.
But the police are poorly equipped and struggling to fight back against the Taliban. For the Pakistani government, though, this is a war that must be won.
Eighteen months after it was launched, "Operation Karachi ‘ is still ongoing and the violent attacks on police and the secret services are escalating. Our reporters in Pakistan went to investigate.
