The message was intended to advertise a school-break activity being offered as part of a national campaign. They called the event KKK Wednesday.
That the abbreviation is also used to refer to the American white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan did not go unnoticed.
Complaints began to pour in, as did an explanation about the organization and its purpose for those who may not be aware of it.
In that capsule history lesson, the poster in part described the society as being comprised of males from the American South who ‘dress up like ghosts and dance around a burning cross.’
