Ecuador has rejected the decision of the Andean Community of Nations to eliminate protective measures on trade with Colombia and Peru. Quito argues that the decision by the regional body is outside its jurisdiction and will negatively affect national industry, especially product diversification. The textile industry will be especially hard hit. Ecuador is appealing the decision of the Andean Community in an effort to control consumer prices and maintain the strength of the national economy.
