Hungarian police smash Europe's "largest illegal cigarette factory"

Hungarian police say they have raided and shut down Europe’s largest illegal cigarette factory near Budapest. Authorities seized 2.3 million cigarettes and 22 tonnes of tobacco, enough to produce an estimated 1.5 million packets. Nine Bulgarians were arrested.

Europol, the EU’s law enforcement agency, says illegal tobacco factories provide organised crime groups with a huge source of income, which often goes towards funding other areas of serious organised crime and terrorism.
