A teenage boy who was reportedly dead for 45 minutes has gone on to make a remarkable recovery. On Martin Luther King Day, 14-year-old John Smith fell through ice and into the freezing waters of Lake Saint Louise located in Missouri.

A teenage boy who was reportedly dead for 45 minutes has gone on to make a remarkable recovery. On Martin Luther King Day, 14-year-old John Smith fell through ice and into the freezing waters of Lake Saint Louise located in Missouri.

John was fully submerged and rescuers had a difficult time locating him. They were able to find and pull him out, but by that time John had spent approximately 15 minutes underwater. For quite some time, doctors attempted to revive him by administering CPR.

Reflecting on the efforts, Dr. Kent Sutterer commented, "In my mind this is a very grim, very poor chance of survival already. The question was raised: how long should they continue CPR. He was dead for 45 minutes."
