Dalton Hayes was returned to his home state of Kentucky for a trial. He and his 13-year-old girlfriend disappeared from there 2 weeks ago.
They were found asleep in a stolen vehicle in Panama City, Florida.
Prior to being returned to his home state, Hayes spoke with the News Herald of Panama City and said the two were trying to get away from his girlfriend’s abusive family.
He also expressed regret about stealing cars to make the trip to Florida and wished that they’d taken a bus instead.
In the time they were on the run, some news outlets likened the duo to Bonnie & Clyde.
