For the second time, pop star Shakira is holding a world baby shower, asking her fans to purchase vital items to benefit kids through the work of UNICEF in lieu of baby gifts.

Pop star Shakira is demonstrating her role as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador in a personal way--by holding a world baby shower for her second child.

Instead of buying baby items for the singer, fans are asked to purchase one of ten “Inspired Gifts” for the charity including basic water kits, the polio vaccine, storybooks, blankets, and soccer balls.

Participants are also encouraged to hold their own online baby showers to benefit UNICEF’s work with children.

Shakira announced this event on her Facebook page, which has more than 106 million likes, the most of any celebrity on the social networking site.

She explains that her inspiration was for expectant mothers to “use the blessing of her child’s imminent birth to save the lives of other, less fortunate children around the world.
