The bodies of both victims, identified as 72-year-old Peggye McNair and 53-year-old Mark Mere were discovered at approximately 2:30 p.m. on the grounds of the Camel Kisses farm.

McNair is the owner of the property. Mere had reportedly entered the camel’s pen to break ice in the animals’ frozen water trough.

There were 3 camels inside the pen during the incident – two females and one male. Suddenly, Mere was attacked by the male and McNair rushed over to help.

While attempting to close the gate, the same animal attacked her as well. The male was in rut and its one of the rare periods when the species is aggressive.
