Two famous rack-railways climb the giant back of the Rigi massif, which rises between two lakes, the Vierwaldstätter See and the Zuger See.
One line starts out from Vitznau, the other from Goldau. Both railways were built in the 1870's. Even today beautifully preserved steam locomotives, from times long past occasionally ply these lines. And from those who like heady heights, a cable railway straddles the Rigi.
