States Work to Meet 2015 Renewable Energy Standards - The Minute

Around the country, investor-owned utilities are working to meet new renewable energy standards that have kicked in at the start of 2015. Thirty states, the District of Columbia, and two U.S. territories have set mandated standards for the increased use of renewable energy during the past 10 years. Some have set specific goals. They range from New York state’s 29 percent of total energy output, one of the highest in the country, to New Mexico’s 15 percent, up from last year’s 10 percent. According to the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency, managed by the Department of Energy, most states are on track to meet their standards.
