The US State Department rejected Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's proposal to exchange the leader of Venezuela's right-wing opposition, Leopoldo Lopez, for Oscar Lopez Rivera, a Puerto Rican pro-independence fighter imprisoned in the US for the past 33 years. Lopez is on trial for his participation in the violent events known as 'guarimbas' in Venezuela, which caused the death of 43 people and left more 800 injured. teleSUR
