These are polymeric compounds of silicon having Si-O linear chains with alkyl groups on either sides of silicon. Their hardness is a function of chain length. They exist as pastes, hard plastics and even as liquid oils used for lubrication. They are water repellent and find use in textile industry, medicine, household appliances, automobile and aircraft industry, kitchen appliances and space applications.
