Nearly 480 passengers and crew members were rescued throughout Sunday night and Monday morning. The passengers spent hours huddled on the ferry's top deck braving harsh elements as they waited for helicopter rescue. The owner of the vessel said it had passed all recent inspection tests in spite of a slight malfunction on a fire door.
