A truck hauling trash recently crashed into a group of pedestrians in Glasgow, Scotland. At least six people were killed in the wreck.

All of them were presumably doing their Christmas shopping at the time of the incident. A number of other individuals were injured.

According to witnesses, the driver of the truck may have suffered a heart attack or experienced another medical condition. Just prior to the crash, the truck barreled through traffic lights.

One onlooker said the truck was going very fast, possibly 70 to 100 miles per hour. It ended up driving off the road and moving down a sidewalk area that was filled with pedestrians.

After striking the holiday shoppers, the truck crashed into a nearby hotel. One witness used Twitter to describe the aftermath noting “Whole of George square is shut off, bodies on the road. Scary man. Horrible, horrible scenes. Even worse at this time of the year. City centre is an eerie, eerie place right now.”

The area was closed off after the crash. All of the surviving victims were taken to the hospital including the truck driver. Superintendent Stewart Carle of Police Scotland said that at this stage of the investigation, the incident appears to be a road accident without any sinister intent behind it.
