AMC Theaters has partnered with MoviePass for a pilot service that will allow individuals to view a film every single day, as long as they have a subscription. Anyone who signs up has to pay a minimum monthly fee of $35.

Netflix, the highly successful media streaming company, offers users the opportunity to watch the movies and shows they want for a low subscription fee. Now a movie theater chain is aspiring to follow that model.

AMC Theaters has partnered with MoviePass for a pilot service allowing individuals to view a film each day with a subscription. Anyone who signs up has to pay a minimum monthly fee of $35.

For 10 dollars more each month, subscribers can view 3D and IMAX movies daily. The new concept is a response to the reduction in attendance rates by millennials.

A recently released report shows the number of flicks seen in theaters by 12- to 24-year-olds has decreased more than 15 percent when compared to last year’s figures.

In a quote to the New York Times, the senior vice president for corporate strategy at AMC, Christina Sternberg commented “It frankly wouldn’t be smart to ignore the success of subscription in other areas of media.”

Subscribers will have to sign up online for the MoviePass service and then use an app to select their chosen movie before heading to a theater.

Program trials will begin in Boston and Denver next month, and may possibly branch out into other cities, depending on the success rate.
