Government officials in Saint Lucia have rejected a request by the United Kingdom to waive its death penalty, in exchange for assistance in solving crime. St. Lucia is part of the Commonwealth. The Island's National Security Minister says neither the UK nor the European Union will dictate Saint Lucia's position on the death penalty.
