Sierra Leone is the hardest hit West African nation by the deadly Ebola virus.

Now Britain plans to intensify efforts in the former British colony where the virus is spreading fastest -- although it has slowed in recent weeks.

More than half the 18,000 confirmed cases of Ebola have been detected in Sierra Leone.

UK International Development Secretary Justine Greening is hoping to turn the tide.

"Transmission rates are already falling, but we should be absolutely clear that there is a long way to go in this battle against Ebola. As we are getting out there into the districts, you're seeing the numbers rise because we're getting a truer picture of just how bad this disease is. So you will see more work, more effort going in over the coming months."

Donal Brown, the head of the UK Ebola task force in Sierra hopes to see progress soon.
