Not too many cars from the 1970s era are nearly as recognizable as the one driven by Burt Reynolds in the hit film, ‘Smokey and the Bandit’.

The actor’s personal 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Coupe that was used for promotional purposes, was recently put up on the auction block and it didn’t disappoint auto buffs and fans of Reynolds.

The sleek, black car sold for a whopping $480,000 this weekend. Julien's Auctions in Las Vegas handled the sale which included numerous personal items belonging to the actor.

The car attracted the most attention and bids, however. The vehicle was subsequently gifted to Reynolds after filming was complete and bears a gold plaque on the driver’s door which reads ‘1977 Pontiac Trans Am Owned By Burt Reynolds’ along with a custom ‘Bandit’ logo.

It has a Pontiac V-8 engine, an automatic transmission and a 4-barrel carburetor. In addition to the car, Reynolds auctioned off hundreds of other belongings, including a custom stagecoach and carriage, high school trophies, his home Rolodex, Golden Globe and other noteworthy awards along with autographed personal photos of Hollywood celebrities.

The actor told ‘Entertainment Tonight’ “I am simply selling some of my memorabilia that I have enjoyed for so many years but do not have use nor room for them anymore.. I am sick of so many pictures of myself in my own home.”
