France.

It's another blow for the car sharing service.

Taxi drivers there staged a 'go slow' on roads around Paris.

But if anything, it wasn't needed - a ban on Uber was announced first thing in the morning by the French interior ministry.

It said the service was illegal.

And - referring to inadequate insurance of drivers - there was a ''real danger'' for consumers.

Just what local drivers had been demanding.

(SOUNDBITE) (French) TAXI DRIVER, ALAIN, SAYING:

"What's important today is the safety of our clients and that the existing legislation should be respected, and that we strengthen regulations which today are nearly non-existent."

The online car sharing service is the world's fastest growing.

But in the past week or so the Netherlands, India, Thailand and Spain have banned Uber from taking bookings.

It's also facing U.S. law suits - one in Portland and another in its home state of California.
