Shouts of 'civil disobedience' from demonstrators in the last remaining protest site in Hong Kong.
Police cleared the encampment in Causeway Bay shopping district Monday morning after demonstrators had occupied it for more than two months.
Some protesters refused to leave, including a few elderly people, who were then escorted out by police and loaded onto a bus.
It's very sad, this resident said. I'm very disappointed in the government, and don't have hope in them any more.
The protesters were demanding open nominations in the city's next election for chief executive. Beijing has said only pre-screened candidates will be on the ballot.
The mainly peaceful protests have represented one of the most serious challenges to China's authority since the bloody crackdown in Tiananmen Square in 1989.
