Monaco celebrates the birth of the royal twins

STORY: Citizens and residents of Monaco came to the Princely Palace to sign a register paying homage to new-born royal twins Jacques and Gabriella on Friday (December 12), speaking of their great affection for one of Europe's oldest royal families.

Notices announcing the birth had been set up outside the palace, overlooking the Mediterranean from a rocky outcrop, and a book was placed in an inner courtyard for residents to express their good wishes.

Twins Gabriella and Jacques, the latter of whom will one day inherit the throne of the glitzy principality famed for its rich residents and luxurious lifestyle, were born early on Wednesday (December 10) evening.

The announcement of the birth was greeted with great fanfare including cannon fire and church bells ringing.
