"Birdman" leads Golden Globe nominations with 7 nods

The surreal show business satire "Birdman," led the Golden Globe Awards film nominations with seven nods making it a frontrunner early in the Hollywood awards season. The story follows a washed-up actor, played by Michael Keaton, attempting a comeback on the Broadway stage. It will compete in the best comedy or musical category with "The Grand Budapest Hotel" which also earned an acting nod for Ralph Fiennes; "Into the Woods" which earned honors for Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt; "St. Vincent," which saw an acting nod for Bill Murray; and British film "Pride."

For the top prize on the drama side, the contenders are coming-of-age drama "Boyhood," which earned nods for Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke; World War Two biopic "The Imitation Game" which garnered acting nods for Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley; "Foxcatcher," which saw Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo gets honors; "Selma" which also earned David Oyelowo a nomination; and "The Theory of Everything," which earned no
