A collision involving a bear resulted in the deaths of three people. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, after a woman who was driving an SUV struck a bear at Big Cypress Seminole Reservation in the Florida Everglades.
A collision involving a bear resulted in the deaths of three people. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, after a woman who was driving an SUV struck a bear at Big Cypress Seminole Reservation in the Florida Everglades.
The black bear weighed approximately 300 pounds. Three people inside of another vehicle pulled over to help the woman.
Right after they got out of the car, a third auto hit the SUV and ended up fatally striking the three Good Samaritans. Eight people were left injured resulting from the wreck.
Four of them were transported to hospitals via ambulance while the remaining four were airlifted. Reportedly, a number of the victims are children.
Two people escaped the crash unharmed. A spokesman for the Seminole Police Department commented "There are bears all through the Everglades, but this is the first time we've had an accident involving a bear."
Accident reconstruction crews were on scene following the wreck as part of the investigation. The bear was killed after being hit by the SUV.
