Typhoon Hagupit pounded the central Philippines, Sunday, causing floods, toppling trees and cutting power lines.

And now, officials confirm at least three people have died.

Howling winds and rain destroyed houses, roofs were ripped off and many thatched homes were lifted and then dumped a few feet away.

And the National Disaster Agency says it isn't over yet:

(SOUNDBITE) (Filipino) NATIONAL DISASTER AGENCY SPOKESPERSON, ALEXANDER PAMA, SAYING:

"(Typhoon Hagupit's) path nearest to Metro Manila, where the eye will be, is around 8 p.m. tomorrow as it moves northwest."

Authorities say this typhoon did not appear as destructive as last year's Typhoon Haiyan, in part due to a massive operation that evacuated more than 1 million residents from coastal and landslide-prone areas.
