U.S., South African hostages in Yemen killed in rescue attempt

That's South African Yolande Korkie ... in an audio message about her husband, teacher Pierre Korkie.

He was killed -- along with U.S. journalist Luke Somers -- in a remote desert village in southern Yemen ... during an attempt by U.S. and Yemeni forces to rescue them from their al Qaeda captors.

Senior officials say both men were shot by the militants shortly after the raid began.

The audio message was made before the dawn rescue, which also left ten of the Islamists dead.

The U.S. says the raid -- the second attempt to rescue Somers in 10 days -- was authorized because his life was thought to be in imminent danger.
