ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
In his weekly address, President Obama touted the latest jobs growth report saying the economy is steadily growing stronger with new jobs being added in the private sector for the tenth consecutive month.
To keep the progress going, Obama urged Congress to avoid a government shutdown.
"We need the outgoing Congress to pass a budget and keep our government open. A Christmas shutdown is not a good idea. Then, when the new Congress convenes in January, we need to work together to invest in the things that support faster growth in higher-paying jobs," Obama said.
Some of those areas include investing in infrastructure, reforming the tax code, making reforms to the immigration system and increasing the minimum wage.
