ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

A large crowd of spectators gathered at sunrise Friday to watch NASA's launch of the Orion spaceship.

The space capsule that's designed to one day fly astronauts to Mars blasted off at 7:05 a.m. EST from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

Despite overcast skies, spectators got up early to watch the launch. "I was raised around this area and I've seen plenty of launches and I don't care which one it is, they always thrill me," said one spectator.

Splashdown in the Pacific Ocean is expected around 11:30 a.m. EST on Friday.
