Venezuela indicts opposition leader Machado, alleging plot to kill Maduro

A show of support as Venezuela's opposition leader Maria Corina Machado leaves the Prosecutor's office -- despite her indictment on charges that she was part of a plot to kill President Nicolas Maduro.
Something she firmly denies:
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) OPPOSITION LEADER, MARIA CORINA MACHADO, SAYING:
"I was just indicted for the crime of conspiracy. It is a crime that has penalty of up to 16 years in prison. All of it, absolutely all of the accusations, the supposed evidence, are false. I reject them."
She says these accusations are a charade, meant to silence her, and distract Venezuelans from a growing economic crisis.
Earlier this year, Machado was at the forefront of major street protests against Maduro's socialist government. Something the opposition's radical wing praises Machado for, saying she stands up for what they consider a dictatorship.
According to one of Machado's advisors, Caracas authorities have not ordered her immediate detention.
