Today we have come to meet father-in-law of Shahzad, father of Shamma Bibi to inquire about the incident how it took place and to see the children of Shahzad and Shamma who are now under the benefaction of him. He is looking after their children very well as we have witnessed with our own eyes. Now we would like to ask him actually what happened that such an incident took place.

Uncle would you tell us that what exactly happened with Shahzad and Shamma and did they tried to contact you and did you know anything about this dispute prior to the incident?

I did not know anything; Shamma’s father-in-law got ill and was hospitalized in Kachi Goti Hospital. I went to see him. Later on Wednesday they informed me that Shamma’s father-in-law, father of Shahzad has passed away. I went to their place and returned to the brick kiln and I was informed that there was some issue about pages found from the kiln.

These included Holy Bible and Holy Quran which we have submitted to the office and a charm which they burnt. A street vendor came and accused that you have burnt pages of Holy Quran but the locals testified and said that they did not burn Holy Quran it is with us. The street vendor raised the issue.

Later on, our children (Shahzad and Shamma) decided to leave the place. There were some acquaintances of them; they spent that night at the house of Iqbal- brother of Shahzad. In the morning while Shamma was kneading the dough, 10- 12 men arrived from Chak 59 and laid hands on her and took her with them as they were taking her along the watchman of the brick kiln arrived and inquired about what was happening and where they were taking Shamma.

The watchmen told them to get away, they locked them in. Those men called many other men, and soon many men arrived who began to tear the roof and jumped in, broke the lock first and when they had broken the roof they jumped in and when they got hold of Shahzad and Shamma they beat them badly with axes. Shahzad was already dead by sever beating by those men but Shamma was still alive so they took them both to the brick kiln and threw Shahzad in the brick kiln later threw Shamma also. Then they splashed patrol on her and covered her in canvas cloth then she caught fire.

After that some of the employees of the brick came followed by the watchman and told that mob attacked them, I told him to at least open fire aerially. Yesterday when I was there to take luggage of children the watchman came across me, I told him that he should have opened fire in the air at least to terrify the people.

He said sir, what we could do against such a large crowd they would have attacked us also. The real issue was that Shahzad was indebted to pay instalment to the brick kiln, which caused his death....
