Recent announcements by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) are increasing hopes that the peace process could be resumed as early as next week. Colombian Presidential Juan Manuel Santos announced that General Ruben Dario Alzate, captured by the FARC almost two weeks ago, would be released Saturday. Bogota had suspended peace negotiations until Alzate was freed. The big question remaining to be answered is what Alzate was going in an area of heavy guerrilla activity, out of uniform, and without backup. Charles Parkinson reports from Bogota. teleSUR
