A communique released Sunday by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) said that the strong military deployment carried out by the Colombian government in the Choco area where General Alzate and four other detainees are being held has not only complicated life for locals who are mostly indigenous or of Afro-Colombian descent, but is also a serious violation of protocol. They said that until the area is demilitarized, the group is not willing to free their detainees. The FARC said that if President Juan Manuel Santos respects the agreed upon protocol, which inlcludes pulling back from military positions in Choco, that General Alzate could be released as early as Tuesday. teleSUR
